Richard Kay


Richard J. Kay, M.A. is a person centered  licensed clinical counselor-psychotherapist specializing in individual, couples and family therapy including step-families, and maintains a private practice  with virtual telehealth services and limited in person face to face sessions in his  Birmingham Michigan office .

 His  warmth  and concierge style  care provides easily accessible contact with clients. Richard is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. His  approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help  effectively address personal life challenges. He integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized treatment  tailored to each person. With compassion and understanding, he works to help  build on  strengths and attain the personal growth clients  are committed to accomplishing.

With over 45 years experience as a  clinical psychotherapist, and as a graduate of Central Michigan University receiving a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, he is currently serving as a private practitioner  with a broad spectrum of clients. 

In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Richard has presented at National conferences and to general audiences speaking on the topics of client care. Among his areas of certifications he is a Nationally Certified Counselor, Board Certified Clinical Psychotherapist-United States, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Academy status and International Association of Marriage and Family Counselors.

He is past-president and founding member of The boards of Michigan Association of Professional Psychologist and Michigan Association of Clinical Counselors. Richard is a professional full member in the Michigan Psychological Association,  , Michigan Mental Health Counselor Association, Florida Mental Health Counselors Association , American Counseling Association, and American Mental Health Counselors Association. He is Licensed independently in Michigan as a Master Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor;  and  is also Licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Indiana.
